Salons choose to pay their Nail Technicians in a variety of different ways. Here are a couple examples of pay based on experience, client retention, as well as what services the Nail Technician is able to perform.
Example A
$10/hr + 30-50% Commission
no product charge (taps and product/salon upkeep= approx $5.00 per client)
Example B
$7.25/hr + 40-60% Commission
plus additional product charges
Example C
45-60% Straight Commission
after TAPS
Tips are not included in the numbers to the left, but you can expect to make at least 10%-20% on each service you perform. So, for example: $50 pedicure, a tip of $5-$10 for an hour of work is typical. You can see how easily a nail technician can make between $15-$20 an hour. The key is building a regular clientele, which requires great work and great customer service. Elite Nail School teaches you how to do both!
“Rates of pay are typically based on your years of experience, your client retention rate, what days your available. For example, Fridays, Saturdays, and nights are optimal times for salons and the more willing you are to book these hours, the faster you are likely to build a regular clientele which translates into more income for you and your salon!”
